What would you think if I told you that you can add more than 100 pounds to your bench press in 4 months? You think I'm crazy? Well, I'm here to say that it is absolutely possible. I know because I did. A few years ago, my bench press went from 185 pounds to 300 in just over 3 1 / 2 months! If you're wondering, I have never taken performance-enhancing drugs. I did not even take a supplement at the time. So how do I do?
Well, there were a handful of contributing factors, but believe it or not, there were only three keys that are absolutely essential: 1) using the strict form of exercise, 2) I made a practice of trying to lift more weight than I thought I could (with proper form, of course), and 3) that gave each muscle group days enough rest to fully recover between workouts.
What I mean by "a strict exercise? For press bank, strictly means keeping your feet on the floor and ass in the bank. If you feel the need to lift up his ass or arch the back as if trying to to back bend, which means the weight you are trying to press it more than they can handle. Period. It's better than training with less weight for a few weeks and then return to the current weight when you can keep strictly. This may mean putting your ego on the shelf for a week or two, but hold it! It's a small price to pay for a commitment to doing things right!
Strict form of exercise also means staying within the correct range of motion. You need to keep your range of motion consistent with how the human body is designed. In other words, just lowering the bar until your elbows are at the sides of his rib cage. If the elbows drop below some of the weight of his chest are giving the will to change the shoulder joints. This creates a weak link in the elevator, that not only gives you a less effective training, but over time will degrade the rotator cuff.
Indeed, the old idea that a media representative bank "is not complete unless you touch the bar to the chest," is simply not true, for 99.9% of the population. The remaining 1% have deep, barrel chests and short arms. Any of these people would make a good power lifter, because at the point where the bar touches a power lifter chest, elbows are more or even the sides of his rib cage. If this does not describe you, however, that the bar must not come anywhere close to touching his chest.
The second key that I mentioned is to bite off more weight and reps than you think you can chew. As I made my way of benching 300 pounds, my training partner and I make sure the largest sets of each of our workouts were heavier than we thought he could raise.
For example: Say we have seen in our training records in our previous workout chest our heaviest set was bench presses with 205 pounds for 6 reps. This year, we are confident that we could bench 215, but 225 would be too heavy. So how heavy we decided to go this time? 225, baby! And for our surprise, almost always lifted the weight! As you can imagine, these unexpected success resulted in increased strength fast! I stress again that, even in our heavier sets, always up with properly. If you can not lift the weight without cheating, it was over.
As for sets and repetitions, We start with a weight that could carry out about 15 to 20 reps with, then add weight each set, until he had to give everything just to squeeze even some reps. Our games in general, was 4 or 5.
Finally, we make sure we give our bodies a lot of rest between workouts. This training understand each body part more than once a week. Remember that your body is based on the muscle between workouts – not in – so it is best not to err on the side of rest too much is not enough.
And there you have it! Make sure your form of exercise is cool before jumping to make super heavy sets. It will not for nothing if you hurt because you can not control the weight you lift. The right of the old adage, "If you do something worth doing!" applied anymore.
Lift hard, lift safely!
