My battery charger melted while charging my Nikon EN-EL1. How can I check if the battery is damaged?
I was using universal charger for lithium batteries. Began to melt and smell horrible. The photo shop will replace the charger, but not the battery. Do not want to ruin the camera battery.

Batteries or dry cells are manufactured to the constant DC power supply without interruption to the various modern appliances that run on electricity. The batteries are usually lead-acid cells. More than 15 billion are produced each year and sold worldwide. Many are alkaline batteries that are discarded after being used once only. But there are some that can be loaded again and again after each use and are known as "rechargeable batteries. These should remain in full load condition to meet the demand for DC power when needed. Battery chargers should therefore be charged those guys.
The different types of battery chargers are:
1) Doctor
2) Automotive
3) Trade
4) Industrial
These can be fixed or portable.
These high-capacity rechargeable batteries. Rechargeable batteries such as nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) Lithium-ion or lithium (Li-ion) batteries can be charged several hundred times and last much longer in high drain devices.
By using these repeatable charging the batteries of the people can save tons of money. When the load falls below a certain level to stop the DC power supply to electric instruments, the battery needs to be charged to recover their ability to supply DC power. Low quality chargers can even damage the battery and shorten its life. The charger takes power directly from power lines and causes the electrical charge on the batteries.
The charging of these depends on different factors such their ability, their age, their initial charges, chargers etc on the subject vary widely. There is a tendency for the generation of heat during the charge of rechargeable batteries that is one of the factors cited by the damage of these batteries. The heat generated mainly due to internal resistance and the chemical reaction of rechargeable batteries. Excess current can also damage the battery after it is fully charged.
There are some load autoloaders that initially at a very high and constant monitoring the cell voltage to reduce or turn off the charge when the battery tends to charge fully. The battery chargers can take 1 hour to 8 hours of charging time and classifications depending on the design of these boots. There are different visual cues, such as LED battery chargers. These indicators suggest that the type of rechargeable batteries
not overload and help prevent overheating.
Today there are range of battery applications refillable style. These guys are even used in power generation stations as a substitute for direct current and emergency lighting system. Also are used in vehicles such as cars, trucks, buses, etc. There are also some battery-powered cars that run on the streets completely based on the power battery and not on fuel.
The use of rechargeable batteries can also be found in laptops, iPods, mobile phones, electric wheelchairs, chargers etc. Therefore, appropriate are essential for the recovery of these re-rechargeable batteries.
