I have a 1/2HP craftsman garage opener, my remote does not work, even bought a new or even a new battery

my wall still swittch still works and the bulb lights when entering the garage, what do you do this?

Make sure the code matches within the distance with the opening of the garage door. They are usually only small and sliders can slide if the remote has been dropped.

How to rebuild the battery packs for cordless tool

Battery tool is an issue that could make a decent sized book! For keep this answer short (but still long!) I must point out that I am speaking only of Ni-Cads, treating some of these things with other batteries and cells may lead to an explosion right in your face. We must start with the basics. A battery is simply a group of individual cells, please keep this in mind as we move forward.

A cell Ni-Cad likes to be very deeply discharged before charging, but a Ni-Cad battery does not. With a stack, one or more cells will be weaker than the rest and overuse may collect one or more cells that can not be corrected. This is caused by the current strong performance through weak while a cell can no longer add to this, so the current flow in that cell is going backwards.

With a title Ni-Cad = "Power Tool Battery DEWALT"> Dewalt battery pack is charged when the performance is just beginning to fall and will last much longer. The heat also kills Ni-Cads so the battery does not run hot and allow to cool before loading. I had some of my batteries last more than six years in use almost daily because they conform to the rules no matter what!

Ni-Cads than a certain size. Most consist of wireless packets a number of 1.2 volts in the cells of a size known as "Sub C", as they are slightly smaller than a current "C" Cell. Its capacity ranges from 600 mA to over 1400th and the price is. In the package you'll find brand cells (usually unmarked) running with the higher end of the scale. The "Harbor Freight" packages et al use of lower capacity cells. Quality of cells also varies, with some designed to be quick-charged while the cheapest can not stand that high rate of charge for a long time (if ever).

Once again, name of brands (DeWalt, Milwaukee, Craftsman, Ryobi, etc) are fast-chargers, the cheapest are not. Ni-Cads are all better with a slow charge cycle but no great loss of the fast charge rate and the difference of time (1 hour vs 5 + hours) makes it worthwhile. The chargers are also different. While some will adapt to the burden of less than the designed capacity, others just overloaded cell thewm cheap and ruin.

As the cells can be used cheaply to reconstruct a battery, you will not get the same performance as a new package will give you. Can be good enough if your application is average, but the heavy use show this to be true. I know because I've rebuilt dozens of batteries and run them hard at work every day. One of the characteristics a Ni-Cad cell is a tendency to create "dendrites" which are small clusters of metal particles inside the cell which effectively creates a short circuit that gets worse over time. Excess loading or unloading (especially the cheaper cells) exacerbates the situation. Dendrites can get burned by "red" one upper voltsge current through the cell. It is the method of "repair" and hear a lot of work for this condition. Observe correct polarity and use a car battery but do not apply the current for long, just a brush like you're striking a match.

Too long and the cell may explode. Remember we are talking about cells, not all battery and each cell must be flashed indivudially. And keep your distance and sparks away from hydrogen battery car, remember the Hindenburg? Nuff said!

Which brings us to the actual repair and reconstruction of the Ni-Cad packages. If you have one or two of malignant cells that can replace them with similar cells of another package of age, so the restoration. If several are bad replace them all (saving the good by concept referred to it later if you wish.) From the factory more batteries are connected by stainless steel straps are welded in the field. This is done as overheating will ruin or cause cells to explode. The welding is done so quickly There is no accumulation of heat. Welding is possible here, but it takes a great amount of heat applied quickly and removed quickly and a good flux.

Roughness of the surface with sandpaper seems to help. As a ham radio nut I've welded a lot and this is the hardest job I know welding. The Internet has plans to make his own point welder, but have not built a way that is on your own there. Now the good part: cells replacement can be had with tabs and spot-welded and welded these cards are for use only. You'll be glad you did! Buy the best cells can be found, back the extra quality is worth the cost. The downside is that you'll probably spend almost as much (or more!) That a new package or factory rebuilt. Sorry this bad news and if you know of a good source of cheap quality cells please let me know!

I cheat, I can buy new packs of Craftsman at K-Mart (Much cheaper than Sears and near the highest cell-line) and use those for my rebuild. I bought a new 19.2 Volter there for $ 19.99 on sale. My last batch of 18V NiCad Sub-C cost me $ 62 after shipping and less able to boot.

By studying the way the battery goes of the hand usually can cut Craftsman apart in a way that minimizes the weld you have to do. If you have space you can even remove the positive connection or negative (depending on battery which is working) from a different place. All that matters is that all cells are in series, the new point of departure connector is right in the case of the package, adding that this connection can handle the current. If I'm out of copper tape (I do from the gutter remains of man) who use 12GA stranded wire if I can fit.

But you do, make sure that a short circuit is impossible or you will have a fire in the best or at worst an explosion, not to mention the plastic melted everything (hopefully not a short-charger usually occurs). If you use plastic to isolate be sure you can handle a large amount of heat, I like to use heavy cardboard for a new notebook. So long as it is kept dry makes a great insulator, but easily ignite if it warms up a bit.

Sorry for the long answer, but like I said, there is much more satisfying wireless batteries with eyes and we have not even touched the Nimh or Lithiums! If the topic intrigues you check out the technical forums www.battery-company.com.au
