Earlier this year Panasonic launched the line of lithium power tools, including the new Panasonic 7440 Li-ion drill. The Panasonic 7440 has been selling like hotcakes since its launch, so I thought I follow the crowd and buy one for home.
Semiconductor industries are like the secret power tool best kept. The majority of Joe Public think they just make big plasma TV and Hi Fi but no power tools professional level! However, as the most Panasonic astute know in fact that power tools, however, unlike any other manufacturer, just make cordless tools.
Panasonic not broadcast the fact that manufacture tools, so that makes you wonder why they sell so many. It seems that they are really very very good.
When I was to buy the Panasonic 7440 I realized that Panasonic also did a combo kit from 7440 and 7540 Li-Ion Impact Driver for the money not much more than the piercing itself calls the EYC140. Having been a big fan of the drivers of impact for years I decided to buy the kit.
Last weekend I used both the driver drill and impact driver to replace the railing of the stairs in my new renovation project. Let's see how well done.
The railing age took place in the post at the top of the stairs with 3 long wood screws. The house is of the Georgian era, and looking at the condition of the stairs, for what they are. The impact driver buzzed 2 screws out no problem, however, the third was clipped by a combination of the power of 7540 and the age of the screw.
Having removed the railing elegantly old driver with a combination of impact and a big hammer, I put in my work to install a new one. Perhaps not the heaviest task of the drilling of pilot holes in the pine, but the 7440 performed well, leaving all the work required to complete it in a single charge. You have to love Lithium Ion.
After a beer, finished the job of installing the new railing and prepared to finish the job.
With all the Panasonic performed very well in this job and I think that was a great buy. I think the only downside of the kit is the 7440 is a diver not a hammer dill drill, masonry is a problem for future work. That said I Own a Makita HR2470 SDS, so no doubt that use.
In summary I would recommend anyone EYC140B kit, you need a new cordless drill driver, as it basically comes with a free impact driver. If you already have a jackhammer or a combination, get this kit. However if you are going to be drilling in masonry often you might be better to find another place, as the Makita LXT202.
The Makita LXT202 kit is also a lithium, however, is more powerful 18v. Including Combi Drill BHP451 impact BTD140 and a driver. However, the LXT202 is usually around £ 50 more expensive than EYC140.
