I have a question about painting my boat?
Here are some questions that relate to the painting of my boat speed. First I've been a painter for over 10 years so I know about the prep work and the basics of spraying with a spray gun the compressor. If you could answer these questions I would love to see, 1. "I can use an orbital sander palm sander instead of a DA? I want to finish really nice, but I have to use a DA sander out of this project. 2. What size air compressor needed to operate a gun? 3. What would you recommend you paint exterior gel-coat that will last? 4. Can I get a good finish without removing the rub rail? 5. When fixing gouges and deep scratches necessary the use of fabric and resin resin or just alone? Thanks for your help! B.
Stay away from gel-coat anyone who uses that never try to change the color of a boat with this product. My project is a wooden boat of 18 '. This is basically a sanding job: get (clear) epoxy sanding it off, repeat … Then sand again for 3-5 layers of epoxy, sanding smooth between each. The interior is full of nooks and crannies under the seats, between the planks, and the bow (pointy end). I have a regular 5 "orbital sander, but it is too big for the corners and some of the boards. Sanding by hand seemed the only alternative. I went to Home Depot, and picked this as the smallest viable looking sander (there was a small detail sander Ryobi comments were less good, and seemed less compelling for large areas I needed to be filled). The B & D Mouse has certainly exceeded all my expectations and I have fallen into use as my main sander inside the vessel, including orbital sander instead of my regular: it is efficient and very effective on the edges. For the worst corners has a pin-sized fingers to fit the nose with a screw. This also is much more effective than I expected (it could be done with it which is even longer, though). Of course, you need a good supply of sandpaper. My local Home Depot was deficient in B & D sand mouse, but I quickly realized I could use regular 5 "(Norton) discs in it, cutting a piece of an old disk to cover the velcro near the base where the disc falls short. You can cut the entire disk to the shape of the sanding plate of the mouse, but I think it is best to just let the folding hard around the edges of extra edge sanding. To probe finger much smaller, you have to cut parts of the disks, if you follow this approach the DIY sandpaper.
PROS: very efficient, high speed, ideal for borders and narrow spaces, the expansion tool indeed, Low height allows access to smaller spacers (watch out for other versions that are higher)
CONS: availability of sandpaper (using regular velcro discs resolve this), extension tools connected through a small philips head screw strip probable that at some point (but still no), dust collection is not very effective, the on / off switch on the front inconvenient in tight spaces, the motherboard is a bit spongy, if you are looking for a dead flat surface. These are all minor compared to the effectiveness of this product.

You have to do some detailed fiberglass and sanding the floor like a charm. It could be a little larger than I wanted, I have medium-sized hands and it seems a bit large for the type of management was doing. When used in vertical position on a flat surface and do not argue, is simply perfect.
