How do I create a local / test web server?
I just installed Ubuntu on an old computer of mine, and now I want to configure it as Internet web server. I'm going to install LAMP, I think I can handle, but after that I'm a little lost. Beyond installing Apache, what things I allow incoming connections? I have several Ethernet CAT5 cables and a router … Is there a way to connect these together so that my other computers can connect to the server? Can I hook into the Internet server of the "slot" of the router? Alternatively, you could simply connect a computer to the server with a CAT5 cable?
The question is: will you be able to get to this computer from the Internet? If not, what you want to do is connect all of your PC, including the server's LAN ports router. The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one. First, we have the wireless access point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B network.
