What makes a compound miter saw?
I am thinking of buying a miter saw, but I'm not sure I understand what is a "composite" miter saw is. Worse means that the blade is tilted from left to right and moving left to right on the base? If so, does that mean that a miter "saw" not tilt? I'm looking at Delta Shopmaster MS-265. In a list of states as a miter saw, and another list is called a compound saw – hence my confusion.
A miter and bevel angle cut at the same time. But bezel to the left or right. Only the left. A dual compound miter bevel however was tapered in both directions. If you plan on using this saw (delta) only in "DIY", you will well. If you plan to use every day is bad disappointed. It is not easy to use, the trigger has been designed for use with right hand only. I have had and used different miter saws, My choice is "Dewalt 12" double bevel "a little more expensive but worth the extra. FYI You do not need a miter the crown, as shown in people first response.

Miter
Segments and staves are used in carpentry to form circles, arches, cylinders and polygons. Once you decide how many sides or segments your polygon will have, simply divide 360 degrees by the number of segments. Each segment and its radial lines form a triangle with angles total included 180 degrees.
Divide 360 degrees by the number of segments you want to find the included angle of the radial lines. Subtract this number to 180 degrees. Divide the result by two to find the miter angle to be cut on both ends of a segment, or each side of a stave. This applies to any number of segments.
Suppose a pentagon, which, of course, has five parts. Divide 360 by 5 and you get 72 degrees. This is the included angle of radial lines, and since a triangle is 180 degrees, the angles at each end of the segment are half of the difference between 180 degrees and 72 degrees. (360 / 5 = 72. 180-72 = 108. 108 / 2 = 54) The angle at each end of the segment is 54 degrees, which is the miter angle to be cut each segment.
Table Saw and miter saw angle scales are relative to the blade is perpendicular to the table or the fence, so it is necessary to deduct the miter angle of 90 degrees in the formula Previous to arrive at the correct angle on the saw.
Notice that in a 3-part project, the miter angle is 30 degrees, a table saw or a miter saw usually no more than 45 degrees.
