How long will the battery in a Chevy Volt or Nissan sheet one last time before it needs to be replaced?
Depends your definition of "durable". Survive long battery companies focus on battery technology widely in car design like these. However, like any other battery, the capacity will begin to degrade from the moment they leave the factory regardless if you are not using. This means that in the last years of his drive vs recharge is reduced and the battery will not be the "last" as long as when new. In Actually, only the vehicle owner could determine when the capacity was insufficient for their driving needs, etc.. With all these new electric cars unproven coming to market is only a hypothesis about how long the batteries will actually last in the real world. Hybrid cars like the Prius are much less affected by degradation of the battery will only make the gas engine kick in earlier. The only driver may notice a fractional loss of fuel consumption but without loss of performance to speak of. At this point people (myself included) have a rechargeable image of things (phones, drills, etc) as always die the worst of times and have a vision to crawl along a road somewhere in search of a place to plug in the electric car died before they will not move. Despite safeguards to prevent this in the car, I guarantee the thought still crosses the minds of the people.

General Motors plans battery plant in Michigan Volt
In late 2010, General Motors hopes to have its first production electric car ready The Chevrolet Volt in showrooms across the U.S.. Very expected, the Volt represents a new direction of the giant automaker is producing a line of great energy efficiency and environmentally friendly vehicles for the Masses.
Before GM can produce a volt, the company is having a plant in place that can produce the battery pack 400 pounds of lithium-ion battery that will power the car. To do so, GM has announced that a Michigan factory will assemble the cells fuel to be made by Corporation LG Chem of South Korea, investing $ 30 million to do the job.
"The design, development and production Advanced Battery should be a central responsibility for GM, and have been rapidly building our capacity and resources to support this direction, "said Wagoner." This is another demonstration of our commitment to the electrification of the car and the Chevrolet Volt – a commitment that now totals more than $ 1 billion. "
A location for the plant has not been finalized, but the car company is in talks with state and local officials on the location installation. GM expects the facility will be put in place quickly, allowing the company to start production in early 2010.
"Our ads are part of a comprehensive strategy for GM's advanced battery that expands along two paths," said Wagoner. "First, we identifying core competencies – such as battery research, development and assembly – and the integration of these fundamental aspects of our product development and manufacturing operations. We believe this will become a competitive advantage for GM, will be critical to the long-term success of GM. Secondly, we building a list of suppliers of batteries and academics across the world, and using their specialized skills to develop battery chemistries and designs cell, as well as future automotive battery engineers. "
The Volt is expected to be the first of many electric cars built by GM on the coming years. Energy supplement will be provided by a 1.4L I4 engine, but power the Volt will have a range of forty miles. GM expects the car will appeal to travelers who are able to connect their cars every night for a recharge and go about their business the next day.
GM has shown Cadillac concept Converge recently, an elegant two-door coupe, which is another example of how the Volt platform could be used. GM expects the Volt also Europe will be sold under the Opel brand and perhaps in Australia as a Holden model.
