Can I convert a 18-volt battery miter saw to a piece of AC equipment and if so how?
I have a 18 Volt, 8.25 "miter Ryobi saw. I would like to remove the battery and be able to run the saw for a continuous power source. The batteries wear out quickly, but the Sierra is perfect.
it is possible to do this … all that is needed is a transformer to lower the voltage from 110 volts to 18 volts and a bridge rectifier to change AC continuously …. a bridge rectifier only costs about $ 30 and a transformer can cost between 10 to 50 dollars depending on the transformer VA …. the figure ranges from transformer would multiply 18 times the maximum volts amps shown on the nameplate of the drill … For example, if exercise maximum amps was 10 amps at 18 volts that would be 180 VA (volts, amps )…. you can mount this in a box with a cable to connect to a wall socket and cable to go from drilling back to the transformer box …. the total cost of something like this, plus the payment to an electrician for all wiring to that probably in the range of 150 dolll …. I could build this … but this would be cheaper to buy a standard 110 volt miter saw to start ….. but on the other hand, if you have lots of tools of 18 volts, then this could be the way forward, as you could adapt the battery itself by removing the battery and the use of the shell that lets you switch from one tool to another, provided they all use the same type of battery … this would last indefinitely, provided it was built to carry the load Amp Max of their most powerful tool ….
